Blogging Again

So I have the students journal each morning, so I thought I would take this time to jot down some thoughts in this blog. It has been inactive for a number of years, and honestly I don't know if I'll keep up with it, but we'll see how it goes. Last night we had the Basketball Banquet for the Middle School Teams. Next year I think I'll push for a Parent/Kid Game as part of the evening's festivities. One quarter for each team. Check back next year to see if we were able to make it happen...

One week done and on to week two. The students did a great job of getting all of their work done on time last week. This week they have slipped a little bit, but it was a long weekend and we'll get back on track.

The weekend was good. My parents came for a visit and we went to go see my Grandma. Had a fantasy football draft as well last night...should have a pretty good team.

First day of school at Salem today. I have an awesome group of 5-6th graders this year. They are very excited to be here which is evident by the noise level in the classroom. They are a bright bunch and I am looking forward to learning with them this year.

I had them each share a "little known fact" about themselves this morning and I made the mistake of starting by telling them about a pet that I had as a child which died. Every story after that was about pets that met unfortunate ends. Oh, well.

It's going to be a great year!

Cant wait for the new school year to start!

Well, I picked up an HDTV last week. It arrived on Saturday...just in time for the NFC championship game. Too bad the Packers won. Now we will have to more weeks of Packers dominating the evening news.

Zeke is in full shed mode at school. It is a learning experience for me as this is the first time I have seen a snake shed. Hopefully all goes well.

I gave the students one more "bonus" day to get their Russia Powerpoints ready. I hope they will be ready to present tomorrow.

With just over a month gone by since my last post, a lot has happened. First, I did purchase a snake. He is a ball python that we named Hazika (Zeke) which in the Nigerian language means "intelligent one". I was a little nervous because he didn't eat last week, and that is an issue for ball pythons although they can go up to a year without eating. Last night Zeke gobbled up a fuzzy mouse in record time...he must have been hungry.

The students came back from break in good spirits. We are currently working on a powerpoint project which highlights the different regions in Russia. We should be finished with it sometime next week.

That's all for now, hopefully it won't be a month before I have a chance to write again.

It's been awhile. Let's see, what has happened in the interum. Well, the students did a fine job on their class play (the few mishaps that occured only added humor to it). Currently the students are decorating the classroom for Christmas. They are having a terrible time trying to get the lights to stay up and ended up blowing a fuse this afternoon.

The next major project that they have all procrastinated on is the travel agency that they are creating. It is due next Friday. They have had two weeks to work on it and just yesterday some one asked "so, what are we supposed to be doing?" to which I replied "have you looked at any of the guide sheets I handed out which outline step by step what you are supposed to do?" The answer..."well, no." Lets start there. I see tremendous potential in these kids if they would just follow directions.
